Legacy Academy: A Culturally Based Storytelling Program for Adults
This program is designed to train people to become professional storytellers, so that there are people equipped and prepared to continue the work of the RIBS professional founding storytellers. While there are many places people can turn to learn storytelling skills, this course is unique because it goes beyond learning how to tell a personal story. In keeping with the RIBS mission, this course is designed to help students explore their own cultural and historical stories and help them to develop the skills to tell them. This is how we ensure that cultural legacies are not lost, and that storytellers are prepared to pass along ancient wisdom in addition to personal stories. The initial pilot program was partially funded by an Innovation Prize won through RIBS’ participation in a Non Profit Innovation Lab. 13 people came through the 6 month course, and have been featured tellers at FUNDA and other RIBS performances.
