Welcome to Funda Story Camp

The Rhode Island Black Storytellers (RIBS) will present a week-long cultural arts enrichment program for up to 30 students ages 6-12 in Providence. The camp will take place from 9-3 daily, and students will have the opportunity to dive into Black storytelling. RIBS defines Black Storytelling as the oral arts and traditions of African heritage people from around the world. They will hear stories from Black traditions, learn storytelling and performance skills, take workshops in African drumming and dance, music,  and art-making. They will work with professional storytellers and artists to put together a performance showcase at the end of the week for family and friends.

FUNDA Story Camp is open to all, and especially provides an opportunity for African heritage children to see themselves, which is particularly important in places where there few school faculty and staff that look like them. All students get to experience positive, educational and culturally relevant performances and workshops presented by Black cultural artists and educational professionals.

What to Expect

Dynamic Storytelling: Our skilled storytellers bring history to life, captivating young hearts with tales that celebrate the resilience, creativity, and contributions of black individuals throughout time.

Artistic Exploration: Through interactive sessions, children explore their creativity, using various art forms to express their understanding of the stories shared.

Rhythmic Beats: Music and dance are integral components of our program, allowing participants to immerse themselves in the rhythms and movements that have shaped black culture.

Join us at Funda Story Camp, where every story told is a step towards a brighter, more connected future. Together, let's inspire learning, celebrate diversity, and cultivate a love for the rich tapestry of black history.
